Inspiration of the Day: the Hunger Challenge
Today’s inspiration comes from Cooking with Amy who’s participating in the Hunger Challenge, in which you’re supposed to make up recipes for meals costing no more than US $1 per serving, living within the budget of those unfortunate enough to have to rely on food banks. She’s doing an amazing job, not one of her recipes so far has failed to make my mouth water! Today, she...
Inspiration of the Day: Sophie's Challenges --...
When M and I were in London we met L’s sister Sophie. She’s such a lovely person, inside and out: having graduated uni about a year ago she’s working full time and also — and here’s what makes her so special — working to raise awareness and money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer! She just amazes me. She’s only 23 and is dedicating herself so thoroughly to a...
And as this beautiful day draws to a close...

I find myself sitting in my comfy arm chair, knitting, sipping on a cup of tea and listening to Harry Potter read by Stephen Fry. Such perfection. Today has been the most gorgeous day in a very long time. Clear blue skies as far as the eye can see (and that’s pretty far from my room…) lovely and warm, and I’ve spent it in preparation for...
The Susanne Eats, vol 7
I awoke this morning feeling famished. And a little ill. After carefully weighing my options I decided to stay at home and write off today as an investment in better health the rest of the week. After a few hours of relaxation and Gilmore Girls I decided it was time to head to the supermarket for something to stave off the unbearable hunger. I wanted to get fresh eggs, some bacon and maybe some...
Wonder of all Wonders: a Productive Day!
Today has been such an amazingly productive day. I’ve managed to read two pretty heavy and long poems for tomorrow’s renaissance class, plus a chapter for phonetics and half of Shakespeare’s King Richard II. Also I’ve started knitting a scarf. Since autumn just seemed to kick summer’s lovely, warm bum right out of Norway as soon as I got back from London, I’ve...
The Susanne Eats, vol 6: Shepherd's Pie
After a long day at uni filled with frustrations and with no opportunity for eating (from 10 am till 4 pm) I got home craving something filling and autumny. A quick stop at the supermarket gave me the answer: Shepherd’s Pie! Mmmm! I used Gordon Ramsay’s recipe with a few alterations: I used twice the amount of both onion and carrot, as well as loads of green beans, as I wanted...
The Susanne Eats, vol 4: Hangover
I have always believed that the sign of a brilliant weekend is a horrible hangover. I’ve definitely one of those today. Last night’s house warming party at my sister’s new place (she moved in with our friend Karo) was loads of fun, but unfortunately also loaded with alcohol. I think I must have had about a litre too much wine. And I’m definitely feeling it today. Not going...
Sicilian meatballs
[singlepic=501,320,240„center]
These meatballs are so good, they just might make you overeat and leave you with a stomach-ache! They’re perfect with spaghetti, or even on their own (I’d imagine). I make mine with the accompaniment of my Perfect Roasted Tomato Sauce, letting them cook in the sauce in the oven on a low heat for 30 minutes. This leaves them soft, moist and lovely....
Perfect Roasted Tomato Sauce
[singlepic=516,320,240„center]
This tomato sauce is so delicious you’ll be cheating yourself if you don’t try it! It’s inspired by both Gordon Ramsay’s roasted tomato soup and my mum’s delicious roasted tomato sauce. Basically all you do is roast tomatoes, onion, garlic and fresh herbs at 220 degrees celsius for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally and...
The Susanne Eats, vol 3
[singlepic=503,320,240„center]
So I’ve been wanting to make spaghetti and meatballs for a while now, but somehow things have just got in the way. Such as the liver experiment. But today I had nothing else on my plate, so to speak. Well, except for the Joyce presentation I’m preparing for tomorrow. Anywho, after seeing that funny clip of the kid doing the Gordon Ramsay...
Priceless Ramsay
My mate Trond just sent me this link. This kid is amazing! Such a great imitation, especially the way he pulls at his face when doing Gordon’s staple exclamation ‘Fuck Me!’. Just priceless.. take a look at Little Gordon Ramsey!
Pearly Whites, Joyce and the Joys of Life
I just got back from my annual check-up at the dentist and the verdict was clear: my teeth are perfect! Except for some acid damage to my enamel which I’m sadly only too aware of — I have never taken my recommended amount of calcium due to the fact that milk, the choice drink of most Norwegian children, has made me ill ever since I was six. Mum always tried to get me to take calcium...
Impulse Shopping is Good for the Soul
Last night I was desperate for a snack. I looked through the contents of my fridge, but to no avail. Nothing in there could tempt me. So I decided to run to the supermarket and pick something up. And I picked up a lot of stuff: a set of plates and cups (that I will probably need at some point in the future, right?), a mix master, three pots of herbs, a packet of cured ham, some fresh tomatoes and...
The Susanne Eats, vol 2
[singlepic=494,320,240„center]
Having finally recovered from this morning’s nausea, by the time dinner time rolled around I was absolutely famished! And we all know that the supermarket should always be off limits when you’re hungry, or you’re likely to buy everything within sight. Which is pretty much what I did this afternoon. Luckily I only felt like incredibly...
Death upon all things Dairy
[singlepic=493,320,240„center]
So here’s what happened… Early last night I just couldn’t take the suspense anymore, I longed to taste my spanakopitas and eventually I gave in to temptation: I ate two of them. Delicious little things…ahhh… I thought all was well, I didn’t feel very queasy after eating them as I usually do after having dairy. But this...
The Susanne Eats, vol 1
[singlepic=491,320,240„center]
I’ve decided to start a little thing here where I write a brief post on what I eat. Today, it was a pan fried trout cutlet, with zucchini, grated carrot, some fresh leek and some balsamic vinegar. Absolutely delicious! I love balsamic vinegar with trout and salmon — the flavours just seem to compliment each other perfectly! I prefer it to both...
Settling in
This last week has gone by at lightning speed. I’ve pretty much settled in now — both to single life and in my new place. The Ex and I went on a little expedition to IKEA to try out chairs: I wanted a cushy armchair for my room and he wanted something to lounge in whilst working.. We tried out a few different options:

Complete madness and other breakables

Soooo.. loads has happened! I’ve been to London, which was amazing… Lots to do, lots to see, people to meet, drinks to be drunk, plays to be visited…I even managed to squeeze in a visit at The Pump! Mind you it was on the way from Oxford Street to Piccadilly Circus. But I did it!

We also visited a few...
